Philips EL 3301A
Circa 1966. One of the first models of cassette recorder, defined by it's an circular record button and cream bottom - later models were black. We have several examples of this item.

Ideal placement would be a scene that involves an early unit being used - probably around 1967

Pye TR 9140
Circa 1968. Due to the licensing arrangements, PYE often rebadged Philips products. Here we see the EL 3301A rebadged as a TR 9140.

Ideal placement would be the window of a Radio & TV retailer in 1968.

Philips EL 3302A/15G Circa 1971. The most popular of the first models of cassette recorder, going on to sell millions. Comes complete with imitation leather carry case and microphone. We have several examples with conditions ranging from excellent to poor.

Ideal placement would be any scene that involves a cassette recorder between 1971 and 1975

Browni Circa Early 1970's. Japanese battery / mains cassette recorder with carrying handle moulded into unit.

Ideal placement would be in a childs bedroom in around 1978 due to it's 'used' condition

PrinzSound TR8 Circa 1973. PrinzSound was Japanese manufacturer heavily favoured by the the electronics retailer Dixons. This is a simple battery / mains 'piano key' style cassette recorder

Philips N2203
Circa 1973. Often seen as the upmarket 3302, this had the brushed aluminium casing and the fully covered cassette lid as opposed to the simple plastic one of it's predessors. Badged as 'Automatic', this refers to the use of the 'Automatic Gain Control' (AGC) instead of the variable recording level. Comes complete with imitation leather carry case and microphone.

Ideal placement would be in a home in the mid 1970's.

Philips N2205 Circa 1974. Larger than the N2203, this had a different layout with the speaker to the right of the cassette housing.

Pye 9115 Due to the licensing arrangements, PYE often rebadged Philips products. This is an N2205 rebadged as a TR9115. Like most Philips cassette recorders of the time it comes with it's own 'mock leather' carry case, not in black but a very dark green (not shown in photo).

Ideal placement would be in a home in the mid 1970's.

Circa early 1970's
Japanese 8 track cartridge player. 12v for a car.

Ideal placement would be in a 1972 Austin 1800 'Landcrab' playing Shirley Bassey.

PrinzSound TR9 Circa 1973.
Usually sold by the 'Dixons' retail chain, this portable cassette recorder comes complete with it's mock leather carry case (not shown) and uses the newer 'piano key' style of operating buttons.

Ideal placement would be unwrapped as a Christmas present in 1973

Circa around 1972
8 track cartridge player that is mains powered. The unit splits in half, each half becoming a speaker in itself. Comes complete with vinyl cartridge carry case.

Ideal placement would be in a home playing country music in the early 1970's.

Circa 1977
'Futuristic' looking portable cassette recorder finished in gloss black. Aimed at the higher end of the portable market as it a counter, VU/Battery meter and has the ability to handle chrome tapes.

Ideal placement would be in the home in the late 1970's to mid-1980's.

Circa 1976
High-end cassette deck with dolby and twin VU meters, finished in brushed aluminium. The cassette is recessed into the unit and back lit.

Ideal placement would be in the home of a hi-fi buff in the late 1970's

Large 3 band radio cassette. Finished in grey and brushed aluminium.

Ideal placement would be in bedroom of a teenager between 1981 and 1986 or in the kitchen of a couple setting up house in the early 1990's.

Panasonic RQ-2102 One of the last mono portable cassette recorders. In production for several years, it was a steady seller and a reliable machine. Average
