Arcade video games began in the mid 1970s, with simple white graphics, often projected onto a painted mirror, with colour appearing in 1980. Early handheld games relied on LED technology, then moving to LCD in the early 1980s. Game consoles started with the Atari VCS and all still require a television as the display unit .
